Galway Fa U15 Division 1 : Kiltullagh 4-3 Oughterard.
A fantastic win for the lads yesterday. Played in brilliant sunshine we managed to keep our league hopes alive for another week. Same story as the last few weeks we had a squad of 12, injuries to Rian Earls and Ronan Maher have not helped. We hope Ronan will be ok in 2 weeks but Rian will be out for a bit longer and we all wish him well.
The game was one that ebbed and flowed. Oughterard took the lead midway through the first half with a strike from outside the box that hit the cross bar then off one of our players who could do nothing about it and into the net. Up to that point we were playing really well and were unlucky not to have scored. The lads dusted themselves down and just got stuck into Oughterard and the persistence paid off with 5 minutes to go in the half. A ball played into the path of Michael Hardiman who went one his strong runs cutting in from the right and finishing well.
Half time 1-1. We were pleased with how the lads played. It was a new back four with Jack Moran at right back. He was very impressive all game and had an assist in the second goal. Lewis Dolan and Ethan Lally were the centre backs. Two excellent footballers and as usual we played out from the back as much as possible. Luke Ray was left back and was rock solid as ever putting his body on the line to clear balls on many occasions.
The second half started well we were passing the ball around well. A lovely move from right had side starting with Jack Moran finding Andrew Lally near the edge of the Oughterard box. Andrew made room for himself and from an impossible angle he found the top left-hand corner of the net. A brilliant goal.
With the heat and the fact that 5 lads were at trials, the legs were getting heavy. Eoin Naughton came off before the first half finished as he has clocked up some amount of miles in the last few weeks. Connor o Higgins came on and played well up front putting in some good challenges and Making life hard for their back four.
Rowan Lane as always ran his socks off. He linked up well on the right with Adam Johnson who was on the right side of midfield. Mark Johnson was left side of midfield. Mark would be with the u14s normally but fair play to John, Noel and Paul as they have been brilliant all season helping the u15s out.
Back to the game as the half wore on the legs were getting heavy and Oughterard are a good team with 2 female Irish internationals playing with them. Oughterard scored 2 goals in five minutes. 14 minutes were left. You can do soccer drills for corners, first touch, headers etc, but you either have guts and heart or you don't. These lads all showed this in spades. Adam Davey was brilliant as ever, playing short kick outs and setting up some attacks with some great kick outs. It was another trade mark Michael Hardiman run that got us back level 3-3. 1 minute to go Eoin Naughton sent in a corner and a bit of a scramble ball falls to Michael, bang 4-3. Another thing that got us over the line was the fantastic support we got from parents who kept the lads going till the end.
We have one game left away to Kinvara on Friday 11th a 7pm KO.
