Busy weekend with 4 teams in action.

50’ Tom Daly 52’ Oisin Coyne 60’ Cathal Duffy.       Kiltullagh picked up our first 3 points in the U14 Coley Smith Premier League with an emphatic victory away from home.   The lads were buoyed by our recent win in Athenry and started with confidence.   First 10 minutes had both teams with goalmouth action. Tom had a shot on 8’ and James made a good save on 9’. Kiltullagh piled on the pressure with headers from Tom 12’ and Oisin 15’. Oisin hit crossbar from a free on 22’. Our defense ofJames Cannon,Sean Muldoon,Michael Walsh,Jack OBrien,Sean Mulry were impenetrable with any attack from Colga snuffed out quickly.   James had another fine save on 34’. Our midfield of Oscar OGorman, Oisin Coyne, Danny Keane, Dara McGillicuddy controlled the midfield with excellent tackling and passing.   Cathal and Tom proved a constant threat to the Colga goal. Athenry B 0 – 5 Kiltullagh Pioneers (Tom Daly (3), Dara McGillicuddy, Jack O’Brien) Our U14s had an excellent win yesterday on a sunny afternoon in Athenry in the first round of the Connaught shield. A depleted squad travelled and we had a number of U13s playing also, but the players played extremely well and played some great soccer in a comprehensive win. The game had everything – Mr. Goals had a hat-trick, missed a penalty, missed the rebound, had a goal disallowed for hand ball and generally caused havoc every time he got on the ball. He had two early runs from midfield but was just wide with both shots. Oisin Coyne had a shot on 11’ and JOB had one on 14’ but we just couldn’t get the breakthrough. The first goal finally came on 18’ when Sean Muldoon played a sublime through ball to Tom and he finished expertly. He was then bundled over in the box on 22’, dusted himself off and blasted the penalty off the cross bar and was denied on the follow up by a super save from Athe...

Our U14S went down fighting this afternoon in Sligo in the SFAI cup and the final score line doesn’t really do justice to the story of an excellent match.   It was quite even at the start with chances at both ends with Tom Daly going close with a header on 4’ while Danny Keane was causing the opposition a lot of problems with some great runs down the left wing.   We fell behind on 15’ to a well struck free kick that was bent expertly around the wall, but we almost equalized immediately when Jamie McDonagh crossed in a great ball that Tom came very close to finishing off.   Tom then went on a tremendous run but pulled his shot wide of the right hand post. He made up for it a minute later on 27’ when he finished expertly after great work by Oscar the Grouch.   Parity only lasted 2 minutes and we had a disastrous 3 minutes before the break when we conceded two goals to go in 3-1 down.   We knew that if we could get one goal back we would be right back i...

 Many of you know Peter Cooney, a parent like all the rest of us, out supporting his boys playing soccer with   Kiltullagh Pioneers FC . Peter, however, has had a difficult path over recent years. The U13 Championship team travelled to Corofin on Saturday morning for their 2nd game in the league. Corofin took the lead on 15 minutes with a very well taken free kick from 30 yards.   They followed up with a second goal 3 minutes later and the game seemed to be getting away from us. However the lads improved their performance and we started to gain control of midfield and from there setup some good attacks.   The constant pressure by us yielded a goal on 25 minutes when some great interplay down the right wing resulted in Isaac getting through and he made no mistake with a shot into the corner of the net. Kiltullagh had most of the possession in the 2nd half but found it hard to break down the resolute Corofin defence and we had several chances but their goalie made some excellent saves.   Minutes before the end Cian made a great run down the right and crossed across the face of the goal but there was nobody there to finish. These lads never give up and 20 seconds ...

Our u14 squad travelled to Newbridge, Co Galway yesterday evening and came away with a hard earned victory over a determined local side in the first round of the national cup.   Despite being dominant in most areas throughout the first half, we were decidedly lucky to go in one goal up after Jamie McDonagh expertly finished a sublime cross from Tom Daly just 7 minutes before the break. We rode our luck at our own end and were lucky not to concede, but the number of chances we failed to take was frustrating.   We then had an excellent start to the second half when Oscar O’Gorman scored with a great shot from 20 yards that the goalie parried and Tom was in like a shot to make sure it was over the line.....but Oscar was claiming it.   At 2-0 up you would have thought we would have closed out the game from there, but a combination of home team determination and away team lack of concentration, allowed Shiven to score a cracking free kick and then punish some poor defend...
